Dear Colleagues,

Last month, I announced several changes underway for the AACS, including modified membership categories; expanded educational offerings; and a new, modern website. At the same time, I invited you to send me your thoughts on the changes and what you envision for the AACS using our inbox

I'm happy to report that we received many responses, including this one from Les Blackstock, MD: "Well done, brilliant changes will advance the whole organization." And this one from M. Edmund Braly, DDS: "I cannot tell you how pleased I am that the Academy listened to suggestions, particularly on the OMS membership status." And this one from W. John Bullis, MD: "I believe that taking a broad view and redefining AACS, as you are doing, is a move in the right direction."

In addition to the positive feedback, some of you had questions about the changes, and I was happy to answer them. Here are answers to two common questions, in case any other members still need clarification.
Does the change in Fellowship requirements open the category to non-surgeons?

No. Being a Fellow requires board certification in a surgical specialty and does not open the door to non-surgeons becoming fellows. The full list of fellow membership requirements can be found on our website here.

To what category do International members belong?

Current International members were automatically placed in our Physician Member category. International physicians interested in joining the AACS are invited to apply for Physician Membership here
As always, if you have other questions about the Academy or our plans for expanding education and membership offerings, please do not hesitate to send them to us. We welcome all feedback and encourage you to use our inbox,, to submit your ideas, suggestions, and thoughts.

I hope you are as excited as I am about the transformation of the AACS and that your faith in the Academy and the Cosmetic Surgery Foundation can be demonstrated by your action! If you have not yet renewed for 2015, please do so now. We truly value your membership and look forward to serving you as we advance cosmetic medicine in the months and years ahead.
