March 2019 President's Letter
Thursday, March 21, 2019
Dear friends and colleagues,
We're only three months in, and 2019 has already been an exciting year so far for AACS. On the heels of our successful Annual Scientific Meeting in Orlando, we announced that registration is now open for the World Congress on Liposuction this September 6-7 in Chicago. There's no better way to get focused training on the latest techniques, trends, and technology in the fast-growing field of liposuction. We are also accepting abstracts for presenters for the World Congress, so if you have expertise to share, let us know before April 15.
Please don't forget about the education that is available to you in your home or office. We're kicking off our year of live WebClinics this April 2 starting with "Optimizing Eyelid Surgery Outcomes" hosted by Kimberly Cockerham, MD, FACS.
In addition to offering these learning opportunities, AACS is always working to represent and advocate for cosmetic surgery within the wider world of medicine. One key component of this visibility is our seat at the AMA House of Delegates. To maintain that seat, we must show the AMA that at least 20% of our members are also members of their organization. I ask that you take a few moments to visit the AMA website and be sure your membership is up-to-date and that your specialty is designated as "cosmetic surgery." It's important for our organization!
Additionally, we are continuing to monitor legislation in several states that could possibly impact cosmetic surgeons and will communicate updates as necessary. One recent case that resulted in a positive outcome for our members was in Florida, which you can read about here.
I'm looking forward to working with you this year and seeing you at the World Congress on Liposuction this fall.
Chris Lowery, DO
