Read below for commonly asked questions regarding the clinical fellowship program for Training Fellows.
FOR TRAINING FELLOWS
Q. I need help completing my application. Who should I contact?
A. Please direct all questions to Margaret Bengtson, AACS Account Coordinator. Her contact information is 312.265.3735 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q. What are the eligibility requirements?
A. The fellowship program is offered to any physician who has completed a formal residency in General Surgery, Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery (MD/DDS), Gynecologic Surgery, Ophthalmology Surgery or equivalent ACGME-recognized residency training program.
Q. Is there an application fee?
Q. Where do I send my application?
A. Please complete the Facial Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship or General Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship application and upload your supporting documents. The application will be sent to the Program Directors you have identified on your application.
Q. Can I apply to more than one program at a time?
A. Yes. The application allows you to identify up to five Fellowship Programs of interest. Once the application is complete, the Program Directors you have identified will be contacted with the application information.
Q. What is the deadline for applying?
A. Fellowship programs are for a one year period from July 1 - June 30 of the following year. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and each program director makes the decision when a training fellow is chosen. AACS recommends applying for a program at least one year in advance.
Q. Can I participate in a program for more than one year?
A. The official fellowship program runs for a one year period. If you wish to continue your program for another year, it may be considered and is a decision left up to each fellowship director.
Q. Is there tuition reimbursement or a stipend?
A. Each fellowship training program has its own policy regarding tuition reimbursement or stipends. Most programs offer some sort of compensation - please contact the program you are interested in for details.
Q. What do I have to do to receive my certification of completion?
A. Each training fellow must have the following submitted before receiving a certificate of successful completion from AACS:
1. Verification form from the fellowship director
2. Evaluations from training fellow and fellowship director
3. Surgical log of required cases
4. Submission of an article to American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery or another peer-reviewed journal
Q. Do I have to be a member of AACS?
A. No. An AACS membership is not an application requirement. Training fellows are encouraged to apply for an AACS membership at the Resident member level.There is no cost for Resident members. AACS members receive discounts at AACS meetings, the American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery and additional membership benefits.
