I would like to begin by sincerely thanking our 2015 President, Dr. Michael Will, for his sound and productive leadership through the last year. His leadership has propelled the Academy forward, and I'm honored to take the baton from him for this next leg of the journey.
It's been a month since many of us were in Hollywood, Florida, for the 2016 Annual Scientific Meeting. I thoroughly enjoyed the educational sessions and meeting friends and colleagues at the networking events and receptions. Thank you for your participation and for taking the time to complete our meeting follow-up surveys. Your comments and suggestions will be used in the planning for next year's meeting in San Diego, California, February 9-11, 2017. Be on the lookout for the Call for Presentations coming to you shortly in swift preparation for another successful conference.
As this year's Chair of the Annual Scientific Meeting Planning Committee, I can say firsthand that this group worked tirelessly and committed many hours to ensure the success of the conference. I'd like to specifically thank Rania Agha, MD; Kristine Brecht, MD; Kevin Jovanovic, MD; E. Antonio Mangubat, MD; Joseph Niamtu III, DMD; Marco Pelosi III, MD; and Jennifer Peterson, MD. Your dedication to the Academy is commendable, and I congratulate you on a job well done.
Thank you to those who applied for this year's AACS Award of Excellence in Cosmetic Surgery Education. This is awarded to AACS members who, in the past three years, have received 150 AMA Category 1 CME credits in cosmetic surgery. Congratulations to my fellow 2016 AACS Award of Excellence recipients, who were awarded their certificates at the conference this January: Kristine Brecht, MD; Wade Brock, MD; Alan Greenberg, MD; and E. A. Mangubat, MD. Find award recipient requirements and learn how to apply for the award on the AACS website.
Now, let us move forward. The Academy's Education Committee has developed several Live Surgery Workshops for this year, all currently open for registration. I encourage you to find a workshop near you and consider attending to stay up-to-date on the latest techniques in cosmetic surgery. Space is limited, so register for a workshop soon. Be sure to check back to the AACS website periodically for updated education opportunities, including webinars.
I look forward to continuing the Academy's forward momentum with you throughout this next year. The potential reach and impact of this organization is endless, and I'm thrilled at the opportunity to serve you and the Academy in this way.
Robert A. Shumway, MD, FACS
